Firearm Competency Training (MFTA)

Firearm Competency Training with MFTA

Before the South African Police Service (SAPS) will consider a licence to possess a firearm, the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act 60 of 2000) requires you to obtain a competency certificate. MFTA — Michael Firearms Training Academy — presents the training that prepares you for every step of that process, from first-time handgun owners to dedicated sport and hunting shooters.

What the training covers

• Legal knowledge: the Firearms Control Act, safe storage and transport requirements
• Safe handling and the universal firearm safety rules
• Working knowledge of your firearm type — handgun, rifle or shotgun
• Ammunition knowledge, stoppages and basic maintenance
• The written test and the practical handling and shooting assessment

Which competency do you need?

We present separate courses for semi-automatic pistols, revolvers, manually operated rifles, self-loading rifles, and manually operated and self-loading shotguns. Follow the buttons below for a full description of each course, or contact our team and we will help you choose the right one for your licence application.
